Tyreke Evans Picks Memphis
Published by MoonDog on April 16, 2008
As many had speculated, Tyreke Evans, the nation’s No. 6 ranked basketball recruit announced his decision to attend the University of Memphis this fall.
Evans was said to be leaning towards Memphis earlier today. With the announcement of Derrick Rose leaving the Tigers to enter the NBA Draft, this comes as great news for Tiger fans.
Memphis is still awaiting word from junior Chris Douglas-Roberts regarding his decision to enter the NBA Draft. Most believe Douglas-Roberts will forgo his final year of eligibility.
Evans, a 6′5″ shooting guard, has been one of the most sought after high school basketball players in the nation. Upon trimming his list of potential schools to three, he turned down offers from Villanova and Texas to join John Calipari’s squad.
The Tigers have already signed 6′11″ forward Angel Garcia, the nation’s No. 26 overall ranked player and Matt Simpkins, a 6′8″ forward that is ranked as the No. 47 overall.
Memphis is also awaiting word from Devan Ebanks and Wesley Witherspoon. Ebanks, the No. 13 overall prospect, decommitted from Indiana after Kelvin Sampson resigned earlier this year. The 6′8″ shooting guard is scheduled to visit Memphis on May 9.
