UCLA Tops Recruiting Rankings
Published by MoonDog on May 27, 2008
It looks like the UCLA Bruins will be making more trips to the Final Four in the near future. Scout and Rivals released their final team recruiting rankings and the Bruins have been tabbed as No. 1 according to both recruiting services.
UCLA head coach Ben Howland and his staff hauled in a very impressive class, signing five players ranked among the top 50 in the Rivals top 150 high school basketball players, including Jrue Holiday, the No. 2 ranked player in the nation. UCLA also signed J’Mison Morgan, No. 25 overall, Jerime Anderson, No. 37 overall, Drew Gordon, No. 46 overall, and Malcolm Lee, No. 48 overall.
The rest of Rivals top 10 classes were Kansas, Wake Forest, Louisville, Memphis, Ohio State, Connecticut, Florida State, Florida and Tennessee.
The Jayhawks signed five of the Rivals top 150 players, highlighted by brothers Marcus and Markieff Morris, both ranked in the top 50. Ironically, both players originally gave their verbal commitments to the University of Memphis, the team Kansas defeated in this past season’s national championship game.
Wake Forest signed three players among the top 20 nationally, including Al-Farouq Aminu, the No. 7 overall. The Demon Deacons also signed Ty Walker, No. 17 overall, and Tony Woods, No. 20 overall.
Rick Pitino was able to land three of the top 150, including two of the top 18 players nationally. The Cardinals signed Samardo Samuels, No. 9 overall, Terrence Jennings, No. 18 overall, and Jared Swopshire, No. 131 overall.
The Memphis Tigers signed another exceptional class landing four players in the top 80 of the Rivals 150. John Calipari will have Tyreke Evans, No. 6 overall, Wesley Witherspoon, No. 34 overall, Angel Garcia, No. 47 overall, and Matt Simpkins, No. 80 overall in Tiger uniforms this season.
Scout’s top 10 classes had the Bruins No.1, followed by Ohio State, Wake Forest, Louisville, North Carolina, Memphis, Connecticut, Georgetown, Florida and West Virginia.
The Buckeyes landed B. J. Mullens, the consensus No.1 overall player in the nation. Ohio State also signed William Buford, No. 3 overall, and Walter Offutt.
Rivals ranked the SEC as the top rated conference, with six schools in the top 25. The Pac-10 was second, followed by the Big East, ACC, Big Ten and Big 12.

I’m having some serious difficulty getting your blog to load…but it seems to be working for the moment.
Wow, Wake Forest with one of the best recruiting classes? Not too shabby.
No surprise that Memphis was up there. Hopefully they have a few guys that will stick around longer than a year.
I don’t suppose New Mexico State is anywhere up on that list. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Thanks for linking my post the other day. I was wondering why I got 3 more hits than usual.

My site was running slow this morning for whatever reason. I sent Top Hat an e-mail today - RSB has my IP address banned for some reason. I told him, and I’ll tell you, if they don’t remove the ban I’m not linking to anyone over there.
It’s nothing personal and perhaps it’s a mistake on their part, but I did nothing wrong over there and certainly don’t deserve to be banned.
Let me know they need to remove that ban on my IP.
Thanks.

Well there goes 50% of my readership!
Sorry to hear about that. To my knowledge, they haven’t intentionally banned anyone from that site…and that certainly doesn’t sound consistent with the ground rules at RSB. But I don’t have admin access, so I can’t say for sure.
I have alerted them, or they, about it. My guess is that is was a mistake. But do what you gotta do.

They got it squared away. They took note of my natural superiority - mostly as a result of my connections with the Mafia.
All is right with the Force.
