D-Day, June 6, 1944. On this day 64 years ago, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, helping to shape the world we live in today. Elements of the 29th and 4th Infantry Divisions, the 2nd Ranger Battalion, British, Canadian, Australian and French forces assaulted Fortress Europe.
I’ve walked through the grounds of the Normandy Cemetery and Memorial, one of the most hallowed places on this earth. The rows of crosses and Stars of David neatly aligned spoke volumes to the sacrifices made by those men who established a beachhead in France.
It was those sacrifices that led to the drive into Germany, ultimately ending the war in Europe in May of 1945.
Not many them are left but of the few that are, and those who lost a loved one, please accept my gratitude for your service and sacrifice for me and for all free people of the earth. If you happen to see a WWII veteran today, shake his hand and thank him for his service.

I’ve found that not enough credence is given to the events that took place on that eventful day. There have been films made that do those soldiers nowhere enough justice.
But when I see the fiascos that are now taking place in certain parts of the world. I just hope that we’ve learnt from those events of the past.
