Published by MoonDog on June 16, 2008
The past few days have been very exciting for the Tennessee Volunteer football program with five verbal commitments from some of the better high school players in the nation. The Vols have landed three offensive lineman, an athlete and one of the nation’s most sought after running backs since Friday.
Kevin Revis was the first to commit late last week. The 6′4″ 270-pound offensive guard from Evensville, TN chose the Vols over Duke, Clemson, Kentucky, Purdue, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
Aubrey Phillips became the second offensive lineman in as many days to commit. The 6′6″ 320-pound offensive tackle from Olive Branch, MS chose the Vols over Duke, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Ole Miss, and Penn State.
Nyshier Oliver, an all-purpose back from Jersey City, NJ was the third commitment for the Volunteers this past weekend. The 5′11″ 170-pound athlete chose Tennessee over Virginia, Wake Forest, Boston College, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Rutgers. Oliver has been timed at 4.4 in the 40 and carriers a 3.1 GPA.
The Vols landed one of the most explosive prospects in the Class of 2009 when Jarvis Giles decided to commit to Tennessee. The 5′11″ 175-pound running back from Tampa, FL committed to the Volunteers over South Carolina, Georgia, Clemson, Nebraska and others. Giles has been timed at 4.5 in the 40.
The Vols new running backs coach, Stan Drayton, was very instrumental in swaying Giles to become a Vol.
Late Sunday Aiken, SC offensive lineman JerQuari Schofield announced his decision to attend the University of Tennessee. The 6′6″ 298-pound tackle chose the Vols over Alabama, Clemson, Florida, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
These recent announcements are welcome news for Volunteer fans and are a testament to the efforts of Phil Fulmer’s staff. Tennessee has received commitments from nine high school players and are in active pursuit of many others.
The Vols have already landed five-star wide receiver Je’Ron Stokes and four-star athlete Damien Thigpen.
