People You Don’t F— With
Published by MoonDog on June 19, 2008
I grew up at a time when many of the cartoon, TV and big screen heroes weren’t people you trifled with. Superman – faster than a speeding bullet; more powerful than a locomotive! Batman (Holy Cow!). Spiderman, Johnny Quest and Perry Mason – poor Hamilton Berger.
John Wayne, the essence of cowboys everywhere, was a man I could identify with. Steve McQueen was tough, crafty and beyond cool. Kojak – who loves you baby? Starsky & Hutch were pussies but Huggy Bear was SMOOTH.
All of these guys embodied everything this country is all about, achieving iconic status and setting the benchmark for what was to become known as pop culture.
But none of them could hold a candle to my man Clint – that’s Mr. Eastwood to you, punk!
Regardless if he was riding a horse along a dusty trail or chasing bad guys through the streets of San Francisco, Clint Eastwood reminded males of the species of a guy with long hair, wearing a leather jacket and riding a Harley with no helmet on. Clint is a man’s man. He’s all of the aforementioned dudes rolled into one.
One of my favorite movies is The Outlaw Josey Wales, the epitome of Clint Eastwood flicks. Josey was a man fighting to avenge the murders of his wife and son, riding alongside Missouri guerrillas with the Confederate army. At war’s end Josey refused to succumb to Union law and abide by the establishment’s rules.
For that Josey became an outlaw, a renegade – a wanted man.
Pursued by Kansas Red Legs and his former compatriot Fletcher, Josey eluded capture but not without a few scrapes. Making his way into Texas, Josey picked up a few companions that ultimately became his friends and protectors.
As Josey and his entourage entered the town of Santo Rio, the group rested at the local saloon when more trouble began. Bounty hunters, tracking Josey seeking to collect on the $5,000.00 bounty placed on his head, had arrived in Santo Rio and stood outside the saloon.
One of the bounty hunters mustered up enough courage to face the most feared gunman of his time. The scene below is one of my favorites – not just from this movie but any movie. Not so much because of what happens, but what is said.
“Dyin’ ain’t much of a livin’, boy.”
Don’t mess with Clint – ever.

Great “diversion” post from the usual sports world stuff. I enjoyed revisiting that scene. I agree, Eastwood was always one bad dude! The ‘Spaghetti Westerns’ are unbeatable. Thanks

Dawg – I would say the Chick Pics sufficiently divert attention away from everything else I do around here.
Clint was the man before anyone else was the man. I love that flick.
Thanks for chiming in.

“Don’t mess with Clint – ever”
Too bad Spike Lee hasn’t figured that out – yet.

There are two films that clearly define what Eastwood was about and they were
The Pale Rider , and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly .
And as to his illustrious career as a director . It stands on its own against the best that Hollywood has ever produced.
But one of my alltime favorites of Clint’s has to be Absolute Power which co starred , Gene Hackman , Laura Linney, Ed Harris , Scott Glenn and Dennis Haysbert .
To date I think that it was one of his most understated movies ever.
