Romo Signs Deal With Starter; Packers Lose Money?
Published by MoonDog on June 28, 2008
I came across a couple of articles at the Sports Business Journal - the site I railed against for charging potential readers access to their precious content. Don’t worry - I didn’t pay for this - I found it through exhaustive searching, just like I do when capturing images of half-naked women. Oh, the trails and tribulations I go through for my three loyal readers.
Anyway, Tony Romo has signed a 5-year endorsement deal with Starter for $10 million. It is the richest endorsement deal for athletic apparel and footwear in the NFL. If someone paid me $10 million I’d model frilly underwear. Not that anyone would want to see me in frilly underwear - or any underwear for that matter. There aren’t enough Rolaids.
In other NFL news, most of you have heard the NFL owners are more than likely going to opt out of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Among many reasons the owners are citing is the lack of profit they are generating.
The Green Bay Packers released their 2007-08 P&L, the only club in the league that must do so because they are a publicly held entity. Check out the report and tell me if you think the owners have a legitimate gripe.
Here are some other stories around the net you need to check out:

Check out the football chick - she wrote a great piece about the NFL’s rookie pay.

I’m not the only one who thinks the Grizzlies botched the Kevin Love deal. Read it at Juiced Sports Blog.

Sports Dawg wrote a nice piece about collegiate sports licensing. Get over to An Opinion on Sports and give it a view.
I’ve got errands to run, seaweed tops to wear and bird nests to avoid. I’m a busy man.
