FBI Probing Memphis Connection to Threat Against Red Sox Players
Published by MoonDog on July 2, 2008
I came across this article late last night. The FBI is investigating death threats made against several Boston Red Sox players which may have originated from someone in Memphis. The Commercial Appeal in Memphis reported the story June 30 and has yet to post a follow up.
The FBI is investigating a mailed death threat against at least two Boston Red Sox players that was apparently sent from Memphis, according to a Boston newspaper.
The Boston Herald reported on Monday that authorities are searching for a suspect who’s now living in the Memphis area but is believed to be from Baltimore.
Sources told the Herald that the threat was postmarked in Memphis and was directed at black and Latin players, naming at least two specifically.
The Red Sox will play the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game series that begins Monday night in St. Petersburg, FL. Extra security has been added for the game, the newspaper said.
The two teams, who are neck-and-neck in the American League East, engaged in a brawl earlier this year that resulted in a number of suspensions.
