University of Memphis Lands Nolan Dennis
By MoonDog | July 4, 2008
Rivals.com reported late yesterday that 4-star guard Nolan Dennis from Richland Hills, TX has committed to the University of Memphis. Dennis, 6-5 and 180 pounds, chose Memphis over Baylor, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, North Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA.
Rivals reported earlier Thursday that Dennis was set to make his announcement at any time. Rivals listed Dennis as the nation’s No. 44 player, while Scout listed him as the No. 6 overall and rated him as a 5-star. Dennis averaged 18.0 PPG last season for Richland High School.
It’s a clear indication of just how strong the Tigers basketball program has become. Check out the Top 100 lists at Scout and Rivals; Memphis is in contention for four of the Top 10 prep players in the nation.
The Tigers are believed to be in the running for the No. 2 player in the country, Xavier Henry, a 6-6 SG from Oklahoma City. Henry’s father, Carl, was the captain of the Kansas Jayhawks 1983-84 basketball team at which time current Memphis head coach John Calipari was an assistant with the Jayhawks.
Memphis is also among the favorites to land John Wall, a 6-3 guard from Raleigh, NC, Lance Stephenson, a 6-5 SF from Brooklyn, NY and Kenny Boyton, a 6-2 PG from Plantation, FL.
