Talk of Favre’s Return is Making Me Sick
By MoonDog | July 9, 2008
According to media reports, this past Saturday retired quarterback Brett Favre sent Green Bay Packers General Manager Ted Thompson a text message. While the subject matter remains a mystery, every media outlet in the nation has begun speculating Favre is seeking a return to Green Bay.
Mind you, this is only speculation. For all we know Favre could have sent Thompson a recipe for the most scrumptious Key Lime pie he’s ever had.
When Favre announced his retirement earlier this year I wrote an article about how I could care less. It’s not that I dislike Favre, I’d just grown weary of the annual should I stay or should I go routine. For three offseasons the football-loving world waited anxiously as a mere mortal decided if he was going to return for another season to play for the Packers.
I was watching ESPN’s NFL Live last night and I found myself getting nauseous listening to Bob Golic and Mark Schlereth gush over Favre like young girls did over The Beatles in the 60’s. Both Schlereth and Golic stated that if Favre wanted to return, he should be allowed to do so, reasoning that the Packers would be a better team with him as the starting QB.
For a moment I closed my eyes and conjured a vision of Favre. I saw the halo around his head, a golden aura shining brightly. There at his feet were Golic and Schlereth, genuflecting before him.
Later during the program, ESPN’s resident football genius John Clayton made note of Thompson and others within the Packers organization of not wanting to be the bad guys and tell Favre he can’t return to the team.
Guess what? That’s exactly what Thompson needs to tell Favre.
Apparently I’m the only one who gets why Favre shouldn’t be allowed to return to the Packers. What seems to have escaped or clouded the media’s love fest with Favre is the disruption it creates in Green Bay. If this text message is in fact a request to return to the team, Favre’s timing couldn’t have been worse.
Just weeks before the start of training camp, Favre has pulled this same nonsense the past four offseasons acting like a prima dona while making everyone wait on him to arrive at a decision.
Moreover, has anyone considered what effect this has on the Packers new starting QB, Aaron Rodgers? I suspect Rodgers and the Packers have spent the past four months preparing for the coming season with the thought that Rodgers will run the offense.
Here’s a news flash for the few that may actually read this - the Packers will be a better team this season - without Favre.
Everyone knew the day would come when Favre would eventually retire. Like any other organization, people come and go. The Packers moved along and went about the business of building a football team with Aaron Rodgers in mind as the starting QB.
So when Ted Thompson returns from vacation and gets around to responding to Favre’s text message, this is what he should write. “Brett - while we certainly appreciate everything you did for the Packer organization, we don’t want your creaky ass back.”
Either that or something along the lines of “Thanks for the recipe - that Key Lime pie sounds divine.”

The will I , won’t I saga that is Brett Favre is an anathema to me ! He’s like a pregnant female who’s had multiple partners and is unsure as to who the father is. She’s got make up her mind all tell one of ‘em who’s indeed the father.
But just doesn’t know how to go about it. Much as in the same Favre is unsure as to the real ddirection his alleged retirement should take.
Which begs the quesion if he’s considered such a great decision maker on the field as a player. How the f##k can’t he make up his mind once and for all when it comes to how own retirement ? He’s doing the Packers’ organization and his former teammates a disservice by not putting this issue to rest once and for all !

It’s making me sick too, bro.
Hope all is well with you.
Sorry I’ve been off the grid but I’ve got a very full plate.
I may do some blogging during the Olympics.
