Marlon Brown Narrows List to 10
Published by MoonDog on July 11, 2008
For those of you who take the time to read this blog you’ll know I’ve written two articles about Marlon Brown, the nation’s No. 2 WR that is being heavily recruited by every major football program in the country.
This past Wednesday Brown narrowed his list to 10 schools in no particular order, but Volunteer fans will be pleased to learn Tennessee is among one of those 10.
Brown will be entering his senior year at Harding Academy in Memphis. A 6-5, 205-pound athlete with exceptional skills, it’s no wonder he’s received lots of attention. In mid-May I reported that Brown has been courted heavily by USC and has received a personal visit from the Trojans head coach, Pete Carroll.
However, Brown, raised by his paternal grandmother, has indicated he’d like to stay within the southeast to give his grandmother an opportunity to see him play.
Besides Tennessee and USC, Brown listed UCLA, Stanford, Ohio State, Notre Dame, LSU, Georgia, Florida and Oklahoma as the schools he is considering.
Last season Brown caught 41 passes for 861 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 629 yards and 10 touchdowns on 58 carries. What’s even more scary is just how good Marlon can become.
As I mentioned in the previous articles, Marlon is a team mate of my nephew at Harding Academy and I’ve had a chance to watch this young man play. Harding’s quarterback, while putting forth his best effort, isn’t a particularly good passer and Marlon is often waiting for the ball to arrive. The possibilities are endless when you think how good he can be once he gets on the field with a solid QB.
Brown boasts a 3.2 grade-point average and a 21 ACT score. He plans to play both football and basketball for at least a season at whichever college he chooses.
Marlon has indicated he will wait until the end of the football season to announce his decision. However, the glut of phone calls, text messages and e-mails may influence him to arrive at a decision earlier than expected.
In other Vol football recruiting news, the Third Saturday in Blogtober reported Tennessee has landed two more prospects. Check out that article here.
