Big Orange Roundtable LogoThe Big Orange roundtable shifts to Gate 21 this week where the Godfather of graphic design, LawVol, serves as our master of ceremonies.

I believe in keeping things simple and this week’s answers are concise and to the point.

Below you’ll find links to the other sites’ answers so please check back over the next day or so.

1. Thus far we’ve made a number of predictions for the 2008 Vols. Now, let’s take the next step: What are your pre-season predictions for each of Tennessee’s regular season games this year (along with any explanations you feel are needed)?

Tennessee 27 UCLA 13

Tennessee 34 UAB 7

Tennessee 21 Florida 17

Auburn 20 Tennessee 10

Tennessee 38 Northern Illinois 7

Georgia 31 Tennessee 17

Tennessee 24 Mississippi State 20

Tennessee 34 Alabama 13

Tennessee 28 South Carolina 14

Tennessee 35 Wyoming 13

Tennessee 27 Vanderbilt 10

Tennessee 31 Kentucky 14

2. Gameday routines, we all have them. What are your gameday rituals, especially those that are completely irrational, grounded in baseless superstition, or otherwise defy explanation?

I don’t have any routines and I’m not superstitious. I could write something outlandish but it wouldn’t be truthful. If the game is scheduled for an evening kickoff, I’ll prepare some food but for afternoon games I might have a few chips but nothing else.

I watch the game objectively. I don’t watch the game as a fan and constantly follow the ball. I look at the linebackers reaction on play action. I watch the secondary rotate as the routes develop. I attribute that to having played the game and watching film over and over, looking at the minor details the average fan doesn’t look for, or even see.

However, I can say that after a Vols’ win, I’m less inclined to take a trip to the Memphis Zoo and work over the baby seals.

3. Crompton vs. Tebow? Discuss.

There really isn’t much to discuss. Tebow is a Heisman Trophy winner and Crompton has yet to prove anything. While I’ve made it clear I believe Crompton will turn out to be better than Ainge, Tebow is the proven commodity and Florida has a huge advantage with him as their quarterback.

Crompton has the potential to be very good and I’m confident he’ll perform admirably, but if you’re asking me who I’d rather have at QB, I’ll take Tebow.

4. Will the Vols manage to make it to the SEC Championship Game again this season — either outright, or through the backdoor? Why or why not?

No. Tennessee’s defensive front seven has too many questions and the road games against Auburn and Georgia will be their undoing. Two losses doesn’t necessarily keep you out of the SEC championship game, as we saw last season, but Georgia and Florida aren’t going to lose more than two conference games and the Vols will be unable to get past them in the standings.

5. Of all the coaches in the SEC who do you currently consider to be the best? Why?

Mark Richt. He recruits well, he’s an excellent game coach, he manages his team well and above all, he knows how to win. Richt has taken the Bulldogs to BCS bowls two of the past three seasons and despite the losses to Tennessee, over the past five seasons only LSU has enjoyed more success.
