I came across this at The Commercial Appeal a while ago. Ron Higgins wrote a preview of the Bammers for the coming season. Here are a couple of pearls that should be of particular interest to SEC fans.
“Among them was a 21-14 home loss to Division 1-A bottom feeder Louisiana-Monroe and a sixth straight loss to Auburn.
The Independence Bowl was kind enough to give ‘Bama a bid, and it beat Colorado, 30-24, despite almost blowing a 27-0 second quarter lead.”
“Several factors led to the late-season collapse, among them injuries in the offensive line and at running back.
Also, five players, including three key offensive standouts, were suspended for four games during a university investigation for impermissible receipt of textbooks.”
I couldn’t help but notice the omission of the Tide’s recent woes, most notably the latest incident involving drug-dealer Jimmy Johns. He’ll be joining many of his former Tide team mates to make up one hell of a correctional facility football team this fall.
