Obama, McCain Pandering With VP Selections
Published by MoonDog on September 3, 2008
As if I needed any evidence to support my thinking, the recent selections of Senator Joe Biden and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as vice presidential nominees only proves this election isn’t about what’s best for America, it’s about what’s best for the respective candidates chances of getting elected.
Presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain couldn’t have selected two worse people than Biden and Palin. Joe Biden is a career politician devoid of any original thought and has proven to be clueless on how best to resolve this nation’s biggest issues.
Palin is a complete unknown whose only participation is to help sway female voters away from their typical voting pattern, which historically has leaned toward the Democratic Party. Taking into account McCain’s age and health concerns, an inexperienced and political no name is one step away from holding the most powerful office on the planet.
McCain is kidding himself if he believes Palin’s presence on the Republican ticket is going to swing the election in his direction. There isn’t a reputable analyst that hasn’t identified Independent voters and Latinos as being the X factor in this year’s election.
As for Obama’s selection of Biden, I’m now convinced his decision making ability is completely flawed and lacking intelligent direction. Only an idiot would select a complete idiot like Biden to serve as a running mate. During the Democratic Caucuses and Primaries, you may recall the series of debates that took place among the Democratic presidential candidates.
During one such debate CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked Biden, among others, what course of action would he take to address rising oil costs. Biden responded by stating auto manufacturers needed to produce vehicles that had greater mileage capabilities.
That didn’t work after the 1973 oil embargo, what makes Biden believe it would work now? Not to mention the fact Biden clearly had no idea why oil prices have skyrocketed in the past six years. For that matter, neither does Obama, who believes the big oil companies are to blame.
Apparently only Obama and Biden are the only two people in America that didn’t get the memo. The oil companies aren’t to blame and increasing mileage capabilities isn’t going to solve the problem either.
Meanwhile, Palin has only served in an executive leadership role for two years, being elected to her current post in 2006. Palin’s limited leadership experience includes – and this is no joke – chairing her local parent-teacher association.
Serving as governor of a small state like Alaska is not much different than being the mayor of a large city. In fact, some cities have larger populations than the entire state of Alaska. McCain’s selection of someone totally unprepared for the monumental task as President of the United States appears to be an act of desperation.
Come November Americans will be faced with what comedian Lewis Black would call “two piles of shit.” The one pile voters believe will cause the least amount of odor will win the election, but the victor won’t be the best choice for the nation.

This is not a move to sway you from your statements on Palin and I’ll be the first to admit that her limited experience is a cause for deeper investigation, but… I am sick and tired of hearing about experience as a credible criteria for being a good leader. Our country does not need a foreign-policy expert, or an economic genius, or a war hero/military expert. It needs a leader. If experience was the leading criteria, then someone who was in the political arena their whole lives would be the best candidate and in contrast the most mired down in the trappings that make the system ineffectual. Our government was never intended to be run by life-long yes men (or women). It was intended to be run by people who set aside their professions and led by serving for a short time before returning to what they did. Politics was never intended to be a profession, yet that’s what we have running the country, professional politicians, and if they aren’t the media decries them for not having experience.
There again, this is not an endorsement of Palin, but I do like the fact that she does not seem to be ingrained into the system. I would dare say that there are more true leaders on PTA’s aroubd the country, hell in the town where you live than there are in Washington. How dare you dismiss that as not good experience!
A true leader hears the concerns, decides what the problem is, determines the best way to fix the problem, creates a plan to fix it, implements the plan, and then monitors it to make sure it’s effective. Of course they are also good at using the available resources to do that. Who now in Washington is doing that? They’d all rather blame one another. Experience makes the operation run a little smoother, it isn’t the mandate to lead. Leadership is. We’ll see in the coming months who the true leaders are.
The other thing that drives me bananas is when someone asks, “Is this what you want for Commander-in-Chief?” As if whoever become president will have to grab a rifle and lead men into the field of battle. If the commander issue was the big factor then we’d need only to look to our military for Presidents.
I’m so ready for some outside the box thinking and action in Washington that the idea of a PTA mom from anywhere is more appealing than some blue-blood, whose name got him a job and then corporate donaters allowed him to keep it; only through appeasing people with the money is anybody in DC for very long. That may be good for a few corporations but it does not appear to be good for the rest of us. And don’t get me wrong, if I could be a big-time CEO tomorrow I’d do it but that doesn’t mean it’s the best thing.

MoonDog,
You must admit though, Palin is a lot easier on the eyes than the other three…
Though her voice is annoying. She sounds a little like Stephanie McMahon…not good…

I completely agree about Biden; he is one of the lamest Dems Barry Obama could possibly have chosen. Mr. Change went with someone who has spent 35 years in the Senate and accomplished precious little in that time. Now about Governor Palin…
As Governor she has accomplished things (like the natural gas pipeline to the Lower 48 now beginning construction) that her predecessors had spent decades *talking* about. And without ripping off the taxpayers. More importantly, she has knocked over the corrupt little cocoon that the Alaska political class had constructed for themselves. Those factors had to make her attractive to McCain, who has been a thorn in the side to the corrupt beltway culture for years.
One of the great problems we have now is the notion that you must be a Beltway insider to be qualified for high office. Balderdash, I say. The beltway types long ago forgot who it is they are supposed to be working for; to them it is all about their own power. The best thing we could send to Washington is an outsider to the Beltway wine-and-cheese culture who is razor sharp, tough as nails, able to get things done (instead of endlessly talking about them) and who doesn’t tolerate bullshit. Palin is all of those things and more. Think Teddy Roosevelt in a skirt.
