I’m actually starting to feel sorry for Buckeye fans, not that they want my pity, but it’s warranted. In what is becoming the norm for Ohio State, the Buckeyes traveled to Los Angeles in the most hyped game to date in the young college football season and were thoroughly embarrassed, losing to USC, 35-3.
Midway through the third quarter the Buckeyes had that same look in their eyes we’ve seen for three years. Harsh reality setting in, knowing they failed yet again to silence their critics. Ohio State looked as bad if not worse against the Trojans as they did in getting pummeled in the past two BCS championship games.
Another beat down didn’t come as a surprise, at least to those of us that understand why Ohio State can’t compete against the elite teams in the nation. The Buckeyes lack of speed, gifted skill players and inadequate quarterback play have been exposed repeatedly on the national stage.
Buckeye fans can make all the excuses they want, but Ohio State has proven to be a team that chokes when the lights are shining brightly upon them.
It wouldn’t have mattered where the game was played; it wouldn’t have mattered had Chris Wells played and it wouldn’t have mattered if the great Woody Hayes were standing on the sideline. Nothing would have mattered.
Understandably, Ohio State fans are growing weary of reading about their team’s lack of success against quality competition. But with the Buckeyes continuing to lose in such grand fashion in the most important games, who could blame those of us for pointing out their failures?
It’s a well-known fact the Trojans are the most talented team in the nation. Arguably, the Buckeyes possessed the second-most talented team, at least on paper.
But as we know, games aren’t played on paper. USC exposed the Buckeyes weaknesses and at times made things look so easy it was as if Ohio State had just given up, knowing the outcome was predetermined.
To some extent the outcome was predetermined. Ohio State’s past failures against Florida and LSU provided enough evidence to know the Buckeyes would wilt under the pressure.
OSU’s pain isn’t limited to their rabid fan base either. It’s getting painful for the viewer as well. All of the hype and build up to these “marquee” games have become nothing more than a showcase of the Buckeyes ineptitude.
For the sake of college football fans everywhere I’m going to ask a favor of THE Ohio State. Please lose another game or at minimum, don’t make another appearance in the BCS championship game. I’m getting tired of watching the Buckeyes get thumped and frankly, it’s boring.
I’d prefer to see two teams that will provide us with a competitive game and the Buckeyes have proven they aren’t capable of that. College football fans deserve better and we don’t deserve to watch another pathetic performance from the Buckeyes.
Go ahead Buckeye fans, make excuses, tell me I’m wrong, call me what you will but in the end, you know I’m right. I don’t have to prove it either, the Buckeyes have done all the proving for me.

I’m not sure if it’s choking, they certainly didn’t against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl, but rather the sock puppets believing that they do have the talent to compete with the SEC.
USC is another rant for another day

I know that you don’t want to have to have anything with the three lettered monster known as F*o*x . But I’d written a highly opinionated piece within that forum which brought out the usual cabal of Buckeye fans who thought I was being somewhat disrespectful and self serving in berating their team. In all honesty nothing was further from the truth as all I merely did was to point out why they lost. And the fact that in terms of recruiting they aren’t recruiting athletes who can play football. But marginal football players who think that they’re athletes.
And in the cold light of day I doubt that I could’ve been more succinct in my assessment !
tophatal ………….
This reminds me of Notre Dame about 5 years ago. They were good enough to go 9-2 or so and making the BCS every season but when they played the talented teams in those games bowl games they got smoked.
As a Buckeye fan, I do realize that the past few years of losses in big games, under the spot light, it seems that Ohio St. has no talent, no speed. To be honest with you we continually pick up top ranked recruits from all over the nation, with speed, with great talent, its not the kids abilities that are lacking. I believe its the coaching and playcalling that is holding Ohio St. back. One of the big differenences i see between the Big 10 and SEC, You guys LOVE to be in the lime light, showboat and frankly act like heathens on and off the field (with a few exceptions of course). As for the Big 10 we play a more Conservative game, not saying i like that play style, but to say we are lacking gifted, skills players is completely wrong.
I’m not trying to make excuses for this Sat. game, we killed ourselves with flags, and turnovers, and some of the decsisions from the coaching staff was very questionable.
