Cowboys Get First Ever Win At Lambeau Field
Published by MoonDog on September 22, 2008
The Dallas Cowboys got their first ever win at Lambeau Field Sunday night against Green Bay behind 217 rushing yards from Marion Barber and Felix Jones to defeat the Packers 27-16.
Barber ran for a career-high 142 yards on 28 carries and added a touchdown with a 2-yard run in the third quarter. Jones added a 60-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and finished with 76 yards on six carries.
Miles Austin, coming off an injury to his medial collateral ligament during training camp, caught two passes, one for a 52-yard touchdown after quarterback Tony Romo stepped up in the pocket to avoid the Packers’ pass rush.
Romo completed 17-of-30 passes for 260 yards, with only two of his passes to wide receiver Terrell Owens for 17 yards. Tight end Jason Witten caught seven passes for 67 yards and made several catches on third down to keep the chains moving.
The Packers weren’t able to put together any drives with consistency and had trouble running the ball. Green Bay only managed 84 yards rushing against the Dallas defense and were forced to throw much of the second half after the Cowboys took a 20-9 lead with 2:53 remaining in the third quarter.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 22-of-39 passes for 290 yards but had just 177 yards passing late in the fourth quarter after Dallas had sealed the win. The Cowboys did a good job of putting pressure on Rodgers, forcing him to throw off balance and sacking him five times for 40 yards.
Green Bay did an excellent job of covering Owens throughout the game, but their focus on Owens helped the Cowboys run the football very effectively. Dallas held the ball for 32:12 and gained 453 yards against the Packers defense.
Dallas (3-0) is tied atop the NFC East with the New York Giants and return home Sunday to face the Washington Redskins (2-1) who defeated the Arizona Cardinals 24-17.
Despite the loss, Green Bay (2-1) remains atop the NFC North and travels to Tampa Bay next week to face the Bucaneers (2-1), 27-24 winners in overtime against the Chicago Bears.
