Interview of Head Coach Phillip Fulmer Before Auburn Game
By MoonDog | September 23, 2008
I don’t know who conducted this interview, but the questions asked of head coach Phil Fulmer were pillowy soft. Among my fellow Volunteer bloggers, I don’t see anyone in a state of denial.
The harsh realities of the current state of the Vols’ football program should be raising serious questions.
But for some reason the interviewer failed to ask Fulmer about the obvious lack of preparation, leadership and poor decisions that have led to Tennessee’s 1-2 start.
Pay particular attention to question two and Fulmer’s response. We’ve heard this explanation ad nauseum, the same tired excuse we’ve heard from Fulmer for years.
Give special attention to question five as well - Fulmer never actually answered it. Much like he hasn’t had the answers for the Vols’ program over the past five seasons.
I’ll let my fellow Vol bloggers come up with a list of questions they would like to have asked Fulmer if given the opportunity.
The entirety of this text was taken directly from UT Sports.
1. Describe the play and attitude of defensive back Eric Berry through the first three games of the season.
A - “Eric is playing exceptionally well. From the secondary he has become a leader of our defensive unit. I’m very proud of the job he has done. Everyone knows Eric is a hard-hitting, tough football player.”
2. Facing another strong SEC team Saturday on the road, tell what the Vols need to accomplish this week to bounce back against Auburn.
A - “Bounce back is the key wording. So far we have not played our best football. Defensively, we are playing hard and playing reasonably well. We never gave ourselves a chance in the last game. It’s one thing and then another. We’ve got to keep the faith, work hard, fight the battle and get back on track.”
3. Give your assessment of the defensive unit’s play up to this point of the season.
A - “They’re running around and playing hard. I’d like to do a little better and get off the field quicker after third downs. Other than that our defense has played pretty well. There are plenty of ways to improve, but the effort has been uniformly good.”
4. What problems will Auburn’s new, but improving, offense present Saturday?
A - “They played really well against a fine LSU team. They have settled on a quarterback, Chris Todd being the guy to operate their spread offense. They made a lot of good plays against LSU. They are a challenge but we’ve seen the same type offense three games in a row.”
5. What must the Vols do Saturday to move the ball against Auburn’s traditionally stout defense?
A - “They are very physical with fast, hard-hitting defensive linemen. The linebackers cover their area. They put pressure on the quarterback and do a good job stopping the run. They have a lot of good athletes flying around.”

what the fu-k is this….#5 really pissed me off, this guy has no answer to move the ball period…Get rid of this guy ASAP. Tenn has good players but no leadership. We should be 2-1 not freakin 1-2. I blame Fulmer for many diffrent reasons. Bastard!!

Im back and im still pissed off.. This guy is a idiot. Many time-out calls, many play calls was not needed. where in the hell is our true kicker Collquit or whatever his name is,we needed him for UCLA. let me guess fullmer benched him? Tenn has more money, more pride, respect, talent, heart and tradition than any school out there. all these ingrediants equals championships every 3 to 4 years..we hadnt made a run for the big one in 10 years and peyton Manning had nothin to do with it.
