Buckeyes, Trojans Top Scout’s Football Recruiting Rankings

The Ohio State Buckeyes and USC Trojans are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the most recent recruiting rankings released by Scout.com.

Ironically, the same two teams shared the national spotlight less than two weeks ago when they squared off in Los Angeles in a game won by USC 35-3.

The Buckeyes have landed six of the Top 100 as rated by Scout, receiving a total of 25 commitments from prep prospects.

Ohio State has landed the nation’s top rated weakside linebacker in Dorian Bell, the top rated fullback in Carlos Hyde and the number two defensive end, Melvin Fellows.

The Trojans have attracted a wealth of talent, as they seemingly do every year. USC has received commitments from nine of the Top 100 and have a total of 17 commitments, including the nation’s top quarterback Matt Barkley.

USC has also landed the nation’s top tight end, Morrel Presley and the number one middle linebacker, Vontaze Burfict.

Texas comes in at No. 3 on the list receiving commitments from five of the Top 100 players and 17 overall. The Longhorns have a well-balanced list of prospects, signing nine defensive and eight offensive players, including cornerback Marcus Davis and quarterback Garrett Gilbert.

Auburn is No. 4 on the Scout’s list, getting commitments from two of the Top 100 prospects, including junior college linebacker Eltoro Freeman. The Tigers have received a total of 25 commitments and earlier this week got a verbal from defensive end Montez Robinson.

Another bit of irony has LSU ranked as the No. 5 class on Scout’s list. LSU scored a late touchdown to defeat Auburn last Saturday 26-21.

The Tigers have received commitments from four of the Top 100 and a total of 18 overall. LSU has received verbals from the nation’s No. 3 quarterback in Russell Shepard and the No. 2 defensive tackle, Chris Davenport.

Rounding out the Top 10 classes are Florida State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Georgia and Michigan.

Some surprises among the Top 25 classes include Rutgers at No. 11, Stanford at No. 13, Mississippi State at No. 18 and Kentucky at No. 21.

Another notable surprise is Florida’s absence from the Top 25. The Gators are annual members of the Top 5 recruiting classes in the nation but are currently ranked No. 26 by Scout.

Florida more than likely won’t remain at No. 26 for long. They’ve already received commitments from two of the Top 100 and are in the hunt for several more.

The SEC leads all conferences among teams in the Top 25 with eight, followed by the Big 12 with five.
