A federal grand jury in Tennessee has indicted a man in connection with the hacking of the e-mail account of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Federal officials say that 20 year-old David Kernell of Knoxville, Tenn., was indicted by a federal grand jury in Knoxville for intentionally accessing without authorization the e-mail account of Palin, Alaska’s governor.

David Kernell is the son of state Rep. Mike Kernell, a Memphis Democrat and chairman of Tennessee’s House Government Operations Committee.

The father declined last week to discuss the possibility his son might be involved in the case.

“I had nothing to do with it, I had no knowledge or anything,” Mike Kernell told the AP. “I was not a party to anything of this nature at all,” he said. “I wasn’t in on this – and I wouldn’t know how to do anything like that.”

Kernell turned himself in to authorities and was arraigned Wednesday before a magistrate.

Kernell faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and a three-year term of supervised release.

The FBI searched the residence of the lawmaker’s son over the weekend looking for evidence linking him to the hacking.

After the break-in, a person claiming responsibility published a detailed chronology of the hacking on the Web site where the break-in was first revealed.

Experts said the hacker apparently left an easy trail for investigators.

“He might as well have taken a picture of his house and uploaded it,” said Ken Pfeil, an Internet security expert.

David Kernell is an economics major at the University of Tennessee.

This story gets a fat “so what”. Everyone uses company e-mail for personal stuff and vice versa. The little sh– should be at least be fair and see what he can find on the other candidates.
This was the disgusting part of the story; the kid’s dad wouldn’t answer questions about it from the Knoxville, Nashville and Memphis media because he didn’t want to jeopardize his son’s privacy.
    classless f–k.

Politics aside, I think it’s a sad commentary when someone representing America’s “leaders” of tomorrow is stupid enough to have committed such an act.

I often say that America’s youth in general are completely fucking stupid. Never in the history of this nation has there been a generation so poorly educated.

Of course, he doesn’t exactly have a role model of a father to look upon for guidance.

Moon, my thoughts exactly. I was pretty impressed with the youngsters I worked with in Iraq, but I fear they are the exception. Idiots abound, which we see unfortunate daily proof of in the comments section of many a website…

CK I get the impression you’re having trouble identifying the real issue here. It’s not about Sarah Palin, it’s about this idiot kid hacking her e-mail.

Now if you want to identify America’s educational crisis and the government’s responsibility to address it – which they won’t – fine.

But here’s a news flash: you can vote for whomever you want this election and it’s not going to do any good.

Neither candidate is remotely the best choice, especially Obama whose nothing more than a petty liar. This talk of change is has only illustrated my point regarding America’s poorly educated youth.

They’re being led to the slaughter and they don’t even realize it. I simply refer to them as sheep.

You’ll get what you wish for in casting a vote for Obama – disaster without equal.
