Marlon Brown’s Decision Could Hinge On Randle, Kelly
Published by MoonDog on October 29, 2008
As high school teams around the nation complete their regular season schedules and begin their state playoffs, some of the nation’s most desired prep players will get an opportunity to showcase their talent for a few more weeks.
Marlon Brown, a 6-5 wideout for Harding Academy in Memphis, will play his last regular season game this Friday night.
Brown is among the top five wide receivers in the nation and is being recruited by the Tennessee Vols, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Brown, like many of the top prep prospects, has yet to make a commitment to the school he intends to attend. He made an official visit to Georgia on September 26 and he’s made unofficial visits to Tennessee and Ohio State.
Brown hasn’t listed a favorite among the school’s recruiting him, and wisely so. It’s always better to publicly maintain neutrality and keep all of the schools pursuing you interested instead of potentially scaring off one of your suitors.
Like Brown, Rueben Randle, the nation’s No. 2 rated wide receiver, and Kendall Kelly, the No. 3 rated wideout, have yet to announce their decisions.
Randle is being courted by the Vols, LSU, Alabama, Florida, USC, Miami and Michigan. He hasn’t scheduled any official visits and will more than likely make his decision on national signing day.
He’s taken an unofficial visit to Miami and came away very impressed according to reports. Randle has indicated there may be other unofficial visits on the horizon, but as yet hasn’t made an announcement.
Kelly hasn’t taken any official visits to any of the schools that are remain on his list. The Crimson Tide, LSU, Florida, Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee and Clemson are all seeking his services.
Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and LSU are common among the list of programs recruiting Randle and Kelly. Absent from that list of schools is Georgia.
The Bulldogs are the only school seeking Brown and that could be a determining factor as we near national signing day.
Randle, from Bastrop, LA and Kelly, from Gadsden, AL, are likely to remain in the south, meaning one of the SEC programs has an excellent chance to sign them.
Depending on which schools sign Randle and Kelly could play a role in where Brown ends up, especially given the fact Georgia is the only school among the three actively pursuing him.
Another factor that may be considered is the instability that surrounds Tennessee’s program.
With a potential coaching change at the end of the season, Brown, Randle and Kelly may all opt to attend a school that isn’t in a state flux at the moment.
As it stands, Brown may be in the best position to wait until Randle and Kelly announce their decisions, or at minimum until both potentially list a favorite.
As we near national signing day, it will be interesting to see if these three wideouts play off each other in making their college choices.

I heard a guy in Memphis (TALK SHOW HOST) make a prediction that it could end up being Georgia. It was just a prediction, not any of those anonymous sources or any other latest news.
Marlon is still undecided according to a friend of mine who spoke to him briefly last week.
He has been playing a lot af AAU ball and football and has gotten tired as the season grows to a close.
