Today, in case you’ve forgotten, is the day we elect a new president.
I took advantage of early voting last week and I’m glad I did. If the long lines I encountered were any indication, today should easily produce the largest voter turnout in the nation’s history.
On the surface, I don’t have a lot of optimism. Perhaps it’s because I’m a pessimist by nature or the fact I recognize that neither candidate will provide the answers for our nation’s problems.
Regardless of who gets elected, John McCain or Barack Obama will become the 10th president in my lifetime. To put that in context, the United States had only three presidents between 1933 and 1960.
Even though I’m not a fan of McCain or Obama, I still availed myself of the right to vote, and you should too.
Even if you have the same opinions as I do and lack confidence in both of these candidates, you really can’t complain about the job they do when you didn’t take part in the process.
Polls open in some states as early as 0700 and close as late as 2000. Regardless of your location, I strongly urge you to take a few hours today and cast your vote.
