Marlon Brown Wins Tennessee Mr. Football Award
By MoonDog | December 2, 2008
Harding Academy wide receiver Marlon Brown had a big day on Monday, learning he was selected as the state of Tennessee’s Mr. Football for Division 2-A.
On Monday night, Brown got a visit from the University of Tennessee’s new head football coach Lane Kiffin.
Brown is considered to be one of the nation’s best wide receivers and the Vols have actively recruited him since his junior season.
The 6-5, 210-pound Brown was the first player from Harding Academy to win a Mr. Football award.
In addition to Tennessee, Brown is considering scholarship offers from Florida, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State.
“I mean, I knew it was coming, but I was still nervous,” said Brown, who racked up 338 total yards and four touchdowns in the Lions’ 36-34 Division 2-A state-title game loss to Nashville Davidson Academy last Tuesday in Murfreesboro.
In 12 games this season Brown amassed 1,836 all-purpose yards and scored 20 touchdowns.
“I was real proud (to win). Real proud,” he said. “It was a real good season.”
Brown has indicated he will announce his college decision on national signing day in February.
