Marlon Brown, Grandma Really Like Kiffin

Make no mistake, the recruitment of Harding Academy’s Marlon Brown goes beyond his football ability. The 6-5, 210-pound wide receiver is a solid basketball player too, and the schools pursuing him know he’d like to play both sports at the collegiate level.

This past Monday night, Lane Kiffin, the Tennessee Volunteers new head football coach, paid a visit to Brown before his Harding Academy team took on Lausanne.

Everyone supporting the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Tennessee – the programs pursuing his services – will be interested to know Brown’s visit with Kiffin went very well.

In fact, it went so well that Brown’s grandmother seemed to like Kiffin too. Brown has made it clear the school he selects on national signing day will in large part be because of the advice he gets from his grandmother.

After Monday’s meeting with Kiffin, Brown said, “It was a very good one. He was cool, down to earth, easy to talk to.”

“I’m really looking forward to forming a relationship with him. It meant a lot to me that he wanted to come see me first. We just talked about how they would use me and that I would have an opportunity to play early.”

“I still have my official visit set for January 31 which is my last one so I’ll be looking forward to spending more time with coach Kiffin. My grandma felt he was honest so that’s always a good thing if my grandma likes the coach.”

So it would seem Kiffin made a solid first impression not only on Brown, but his grandmother. Now it’s up to the other programs seeking to land Brown to impress his grandmother more than Kiffin.

College football national signing day is on February 4 and Brown will announce his decision via a live press conference on ESPN.
