MoonDog’s Heisman Ballot – Colt McCoy Is The Man

I received an e-mail from Shotgun Spratling at The Blue Workhorse asking all sports bloggers to participate in a Heisman Trophy ballot. One day, the Heisman winner will be decided by those of us that really know college football and not those nansy-pansy “pros.”

Visit Shotgun’s site and take part in selecting who you believe is this year’s Heisman winner.

If the Great & Powerful one actually had a vote, I’d rate the candidates as seen below. Some will scoff at my inclusion of Graham Harrell into this process, but I believe the guy had a great year and deserves to receive some votes.

For me, Colt McCoy is college football’s best player this year. It’s not his fault the Texas defense couldn’t hold the lead against Texas Tech, losing to the Red Raiders on a touchdown pass from Harrell to Michael Crabtree with 8 ticks left on the clock.

Texas Longhorns QB Colt McCoy is my Choice for the Heisman Trophy

Texas Longhorns QB Colt McCoy is my Choice for the Heisman Trophy

1. Colt McCoy – The numbers are unreal; completed 291-of-375 passes for 3445 yards and 32 touchdowns. Rushed for 576 yards on 128 carries and 10 touchdowns. Was the MVP when Texas beat Oklahoma. Texas is an average team without him at QB, and had Texas Tech not made that late TD against the Longhorns, Texas would be playing for the BCS national title.

2. Graham Harrell – OK, so they lost to OU, but he led perhaps the best late game TD drive of the season when the Red Raiders beat Texas. Take away the loss to Oklahoma and Harrell would be the Heisman winner, not to mention, the Red Raiders would be playing for the BCS championship. The numbers? 406-of-568 for 4747 yards, 41 TD’s and only seven picks.

3. Tim Tebow – Not because the media says so, because I really believe he deserves consideration. Literally willed this team to nine straight wins, five of which came against Top 25 opponents. Won the SEC championship for the second time in three years and playing for their second BCS title in three years. 28 passing TD’s, only two picks, 12 rushing TD’s.

Cast your vote below. Let me know who you believe will win the Heisman.

The one guy who seems to be getting no love in all of the balloting it’d appear is Michael Crabtree. Who if anything has made Graham Harrell seem all the better for the Red Raiders.
To my mind he’s the most dynamic player in all of college football !

That being said I do believe that this could be a close run thing merely because of the quality therein of these very good players.
It will make for a very interesting ballot to say the least .

Tebow is the returning Heisman winner, and he has the number 1 team in the nation going to the BCS Championship. He is one of, if not the, best college QB of all time.

He should win it, for being in a conference that actually has defenses.

    Great post Moondog!
