Memphis is trying to recapture the first-round pick it dealt for the rights to acquire Juan Carlos Navarro in 2007.

Crittenton was acquired last season as part of the trade that sent Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers. He has only appeared in seven games for the Grizzlies this season and is averaging 2.7 PPG.

Memphis already has a glut of point guards on the roster with Mike Conley, Jr. and Kyle Lowry seeing the majority of playing time. Crittenton isn’t going to see substantial minutes this season and making an effort to move him will give the second-year player an opportunity with a team that needs help.

Memphis and Washington began discussing the possibility of this trade during the summer. The Grizzlies have had other opportunities to trade Crittenton in exchange for players but always sought to reacquire a first-round pick after Navarro returned to Spain.
