Memphis Harding Academy wide receiver Marlon Brown has been the focal point of college football recruiters since last year. As 2008 winds down, the interest in Brown hasn’t waivered, in fact, it’s increased over the past several weeks.

On December 1, the day Lane Kiffin was introduced as the Tennessee Volunteers new head coach, Brown received a personal visit from him later that evening.

Brown was recently listed as the No. 57 overall prep prospect according to Rivals and has narrowed his list of schools he’s considering to the Vols, LSU, Georgia, Florida and Ohio State.

However, that hasn’t kept other interested coaches from contacting Brown.

Late last week Brown received personal visits from assistant head coach Darrell Hazzle of Ohio State and a surprise visit from Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt.

The 6-5, 210-pound Brown was recently named the state of Tennessee Mr. Football Award winner for Division 2-A. He visited the Buckeyes in October and they continue to pursue him.

“Coach Hazzle just came by to say hey and keep in touch with me. He is always keeping close tabs with me laugh.”

The Rebels had not been in the picture at all, but that didn’t prevent Nutt from trying to make a last minute push to land Brown.

“Coach Nutt called me last night (December 4), and asked me if it were alright if he came and saw me, and I told him it that was fine. It was my first chance to get to meet him.”

Brown’s first impression of Nutt was positive, saying “he was very honest and genuine. I thought coach Nutt was very down to earth. He did not have any ego or anything like that. I enjoyed him.”

Whether the first meeting piqued Brown’s interest enough to take an unofficial visit remains to be seen. He kept the possibility open for a visit to Oxford in the near future.

“It could. I do not know yet. I have a full schedule set up, but I might go down there unofficially to check things out. I just do not know yet.”

In addition to his official visit to Ohio State, Brown has taken an official visit to Georgia on September 27. He has already scheduled official visits to LSU on January 10, Florida on January 24 and Tennessee on January 31.

Brown has said throughout the recruiting process that his decision will be made based on the honesty of the head coach and wide receiver coach.

He wants to be a part of a program where the people are down to earth and also make a good impression on his grandmother.

When Kiffin visited Brown he said the Vols head coach really impressed his grandmother. “She really liked him a lot,” said Brown.

Brown is set to announce his decision via a live press conference on ESPN on national signing day.
