T.O. Says Ed Put Werder(s) In His Mouth
Published by MoonDog on December 15, 2008
Press conferences with Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens makes TNTs claim of “We Know Drama” seem impotent.
Sunday night after Dallas got a huge win against the New York Giants to keep their playoff chances alive, T.O. claimed ESPNs Ed Werder erroneously reported a rift between him, quarterback Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten.
Last week Werder reported Owens alleged Romo and Witten were secretly designing plays to get the Pro Bowl tight end the ball.
Last Friday reports out of Dallas suggested Owens and Witten exchanged words and nearly came to blows, fueling the speculation that a bomb was about to go off in the Cowboys locker room.
As it turned out, the only bomb that went off was the Cowboys defense. Dallas held the Giants to 218 yards, forced two turnovers and sacked Eli Manning eight times. After the game, Owens fielded many questions, almost all of them regarding the supposed feud.
Did ESPN take it too far with its reporting last week?
“No… well yeah. I think Ed Werder did. I don’t know where he got his information, but it was a lie. It’s unfair. I had to deal with this all week. Like I said, I don’t know where he’s getting his sources from and whatever his source was, they told a blatant lie.”
“I don’t know what his sources are talking about. He’s making accusations as if he’s on the practice field. I’m clueless as to what his sources are. For me I think that’s a lack of professionalism in my eyes.”
Did he have an altercation with Jason Witten?
“I don’t know where that came from either. They say we went to blows with each other and I don’t understand where that came from either.”
Did the media coming down on the team help them come together?
“I’m used to it. Everybody’s gonna criticize me. They’re gonna say this and that. I got some broad shoulders. I’m strong enough. I blocked it out. I went out and played.”
Did he hear the fans booing him?
“That’s alright. Only people I’m concerned about are my family and they’re right outside. They can boo me all they want to. It don’t matter.”
Does he worry that his coaches or teammates are the ones that are the sources?
“If it is, that’s sad because we’re supposed to be a family… so maybe I’m being fooled.”
Later, Tony Romo and head coach Wade Phillips intimated during their respective press conferences there was some truth to last week’s reports, but neither would go as far to say it reached the level Werder reported.
I doubt Werder would fabricate a story and I suspect there is some truth to the alleged in-fighting. But there’s always drama in Dallas, and Terrell Owens is easily one of the most dramatic figures in all of sports.
While their 20-8 win over the Giants will keep the wolves at bay regarding their play on the field, don’t bet the howling won’t be just as loud this week in Dallas.
The media is going to continue digging into this story until it reaches a point where playing Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens will seem like a breather.

I suppose it can’t be considered a rift ’til TO tell it’s a rift ? That being said if they’re sharing a bar of soap in the showers then more likely than not they’re still friends instead of bitter enemies.
