Cowboys Won’t Get It Done Against Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles will close out their 2008 regular season schedule with each team playing for a shot at the NFC playoffs.

Dallas QB Tony Romo Hasn't Played Well in Big Games

If Dallas wins Sunday, they’ll be in the playoffs regardless of the outcomes of Sunday’s other games.

Philadelphia needs to defeat Dallas and get some help from other teams. Houston must beat Chicago and Oakland must beat Tampa Bay for the Eagles to gain a berth in the playoffs.

Tampa Bay needs a win over the Raiders and a Cowboys’ loss to the Eagles to make the playoffs, making a Buccaneers victory on Sunday seem likely.

The Bears have an identical scenario. Even if Chicago beats Houston, the Bears’ still need Philadelphia to defeat Dallas and Oakland to defeat Tampa Bay to earn a berth in the playoffs.

Confused?

Regardless of the possibilities, it all boils down to one very simple question. Which team wants it most?

It doesn’t appear the Cowboys will be the team to come out on top Sunday.

Dallas hasn’t played anywhere near their potential for virtually the entire season and it’s doubtful they can muster enough intestinal fortitude to defeat the Eagles.

Philadelphia will be eager to make amends for their 10-3 loss to Washington last Sunday and even if the Eagles don’t earn a playoff berth, a victory over the Cowboys is always sweet, especially when it would prevent Dallas from making it into the postseason.

As if Dallas didn’t already have enough pressure on them entering Sunday’s contest, Tony Romo’s inability to meet the challenges of big games doesn’t bode well for the Cowboys.

If Romo is going to become the championship quarterback the Cowboys’ believe he can be, Romo has to start proving it on Sunday against the Eagles.

Cowboys RB Tashard Choice Will be a Huge Factor Against the Eagles

Injuries to Marion Barber and Jason Witten certainly doesn’t help the cause either. Barber will be a game-time decision and Witten more than likely will play despite a bum ankle he suffered in last weekend’s loss to Baltimore.

Couple Dallas’ propensity to commit stupid penalties and other mental mistakes, the Cowboys will probably be left out of the playoffs after being the preseason choice to earn their first Super Bowl berth since 1995.

Look for Eagles’ defensive coordinator Jim Johnson to blitz Romo early and often. The Cowboys’ offensive line hasn’t done a very good job of protecting Romo this season and Johnson will do everything he can to exploit that weakness.

Dallas must get a sustained effort from their running game to have any chance on Sunday. Rookie Tashard Choice has shown he can get the job done, but the ineffective offensive line play will be the Cowboys undoing.

Hey! Not having faith in the team is Philadelphia’s schtick, dammit. Don’t you have enough to worry about with owner Norma Desmond?

About the only factor in this game was how much the Cowboys sucked. I’ve seen kids with less ability show more than the effort they put forth. And all you hear from the players is the usual rhetoric and bs at the end of the day. They should all have their game checks rescinded and it be used as a refund to their fans.
