I’ve never wanted to be thought of as having a narrow political view and that’s why I became an Independent Populist. While I’ve criticized President Obama’s stimulus plan, I came across this item today and I couldn’t agree more with the President’s position.
Obama has imposed a $500,000 pay cap on senior executives whose firms receive government bailout money. Those funds of course are generated through you and me, the U.S. taxpayer.
I support Obama’s action on this subject because no one receiving my tax dollars should sweeten their own coffers. I don’t begrudge anyone in this country from earning a living by any legal means. I don’t have a problem with anyone earning vast amounts of money because that’s the American way.
What I have a problem with is CEOs of companies paying themselves millions of dollars while the guy making $15 an hour gets laid off. To carry that point further, if an executive of a corporation that’s being funded in any way with U.S. taxpayer dollars, that executive should be limited to what he or she can earn.
I believe a $500,000 salary would allow you to live comfortably, don’t you?
