Bryce Brown, the nation’s top football prospect, ended his recruitment on Monday when he announced he will be attending the University of Tennessee.
Brown, a 6-0, 215-pound running back from Wichita, KS, chose the Volunteers over Oregon, LSU, and Kansas State. He had originally committed to attend the University of Miami last year, but fell out of favor with the Hurricanes over the past several months.
Brown’s decision will add to an already strong recruiting class for Tennessee. The Vols could easily move into the top 10 classes for 2009 with the addition of Brown.
Tennessee landed commitments from five of the nation’s top 100 recruits as rated by Rivals.com. Brown was rated as the No. 1 overall prospect by Rivals and Scout.com, and No. 8 overall by ESPN.
Brown rushed for 1,807 yards and 29 touchdowns this past season at Wichita East, helping his team to an 8-4 record. Brown will join David Oku as another highly touted running back to recently announce his decision to attend Tennessee.
Brown met with Volunteers’ head coach Lane Kiffin and his staff over the weekend, getting an opportunity to watch Tennessee scrimmage during spring practice drills.
Kiffin has assembled a staff in Knoxville that is a recruiting juggernaut. The Vols were able to land a bevy of talented players despite the late start after Kiffin was named head coach on December 1.
