Perez Hilton, Other Nit Wits Rule in Los Angeles

Ah, Los Angeles. Home of all things glitzy and glamorous. Hollywood, the Lakers, the Dodgers, Perez Hilton and… nit wits.

Miley Cyrus has jumped into the same sex marriage debate, insisting Jesus loves everyone – gay or straight.

Perez Hilton, president of gay people everywhere, didn’t get the answer he wanted to hear from Miss California Carrie Prejean at the Miss USA pageant over the weekend.

Hilton, who was judging the beauty contest, asked Prejean for her thoughts on same sex marriage and was floored when Prejean revealed she believed marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Marriage between a man and a woman? How bizarre! How dare she offend the minority.

Hilton has been acting like a spoiled child since the pageant, using his blog to attack Prejean. Now he has asked celebrities for their thoughts on the issue.

Among those celebrities Hilton sought to get a response from was Cyrus – a wise old sage of 16 years.

That’s exactly what I do – when I want in-depth analysis on a hot-button issue, I turn to any 16-year old I can find for enlightenment.

Others have taken the low road and joined in the bashing of Prejean, including former Playboy Playmate Shana Moakler.

Moakler, who helped mentor Prejean before the pageant, admits she was upset by the response to Hilton’s question, and has refused to speak with her since the pageant.

Perhaps its time Hilton grew a pair and at least acted like half a man – or a tough woman – and stopped acting like a baby. We don’t always get what we want, and for most of us – those that live in reality every day – deal with failure or rejection and move along.

Better yet, if Hilton wanted to get a truly objective response to his meaningless query, he’d have the balls to sample a cross-section of the nation instead of limiting it to an obviously pro-gay crowd.

And so no one believes I’m gay bashing, I don’t care if two dudes want to exchange vows. If that’s their thing, its OK with me. But I don’t support anyone like Hilton who uses his celebrity to attack someone that merely disagreed with him.

At the end of the day, the subject of same sex marriage is trivial at best. Considering there are hundreds of more glaring issues that face this nation, I believe dialogue among us should focus on those subjects that truly merit discussion.

Moreover, of all people to go on the offensive against someone’s beliefs, Perez should know better. As a gay man, I would suspect he’s encountered discrimination of some sort and verbal attacks from those who oppose homosexuality.

It’s reasonable to think Hilton would take those lessons learned from his own experiences and not lash out against Prejean. Yet, that’s exactly what he’s doing.

Quit boo-hooing Perez and use your public forum to solicit meaningful conversation, not as a foundation to attack those that voiced an opinion that you obviously can’t handle.

You know the song, don’t you Perez? “You can’t always get what you want…”

Okay, for the record I’m completely for gay marriage. I have this nutso idea that any two people of consenting age should be allowed to enjoy all the legal benefits of marriage.

But I was floored to hear that a judge would presume to decide a beauty pageant based on these sorts of questions. Don’t get me wrong: Beauty pageants are utter, inane, BS. But when has a beauty pageant ever weighed in on social issues?!

If you’re going to agree to judge a beauty pageant, don’t ask socially significant questions. Ask them whether they’re for or against world peace. Be sure they never refer to anything as “The Iraq.” But don’t penalize someone for giving you an honest answer, however wrong and pigheaded you may find it.
