New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce were among several high profile individuals who had their personal information illegally accessed by police in Massachusetts.
An internal audit has revealed that questionable criminal background checks were performed numerous times on Boston area celebrities including actor Matt Damon, singer James Taylor, Brady and Pierce.
Information accessed varied from driver’s license photos and home addresses to whether the stars had purchased guns, reports The Boston Globe newspaper.
Authorities have now launched an investigation into the matter.
Brady is currently recovering from a knee injury suffered in the Patriots first game of the 2008-09 regular season. He’s expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the Pats training camp in July.
Pierce is currently leading the Celtics in scoring as Boston plays Orlando in the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the NBA playoffs. The best of seven series is tied at one game apiece.
