NCAA Licenses 34 Bowl Games For 2009-10
Published by MoonDog on May 19, 2009
In late April the NCAA Football Issues Committee reviewed 34 applications and subsequently approved licenses for 34 bowl games for 2009-10. No new bowls were licensed for the upcoming season.
The NCAA does not administer or operate bowl games, however, the NCAA must give its authorization and serve as a regulator to protect student-athlete safety and well-being.
The licensing process for the most part is a formality, with the NCAA generally rubber-stamping its approval for every bowl over the past three decades.
The NCAA bases the need for the licensing process on a number of factors, including the regulation of sponsors and their representatives.
Here is the list of bowls that have been licensed for 2009-10.

The subcommittee based the total number of bowls on historical data regarding the number of teams that are typically bowl eligible and the licensing criteria used each year to assess the qualifications of the bowl candidates.
“The committee is pleased to license all 34 bowls that took place last year,” said Wright Waters, commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference and chair of the NCAA Football Issues Committee, which oversees bowl licensing for the association.
“It shows the good work and management these bowl organizers have done to create a positive experience for student-athletes.
The postseason bowl licensing members of the NCAA Football Issues Committee are made up of one representative from each of the 11 Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) conferences.
Official dates and kickoff times for all 34 bowls have yet to be announced.
