I’m admitting my bias towards Gail Stanton, Playboy’s Playmate of the Month for June 1978. Stanton, born Brenda Stone, hails from Memphis and as some of you are aware, I was born and reside in Memphis as well.
Stanton was the daughter of a Southern Baptist church deacon. Prior to her layout in Playboy, she changed her name to Gail Stanton so that she would not embarrass her father.
A former high school cheerleader and homecoming queen, Stanton began her modeling career when she posed nude for Playboy Magazine’s April 1977 pictorial, The Girls of the New South.
After her Playmate of the Month appearance, Stanton did promotional spots for Anheuser-Busch, serving as Miss Michelob in the 1980s, and she performed public relations work for the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee.
In 1984, she landed a role in the film Making The Grade. Stanton was involved doing work for charity and preventing cruelty to animals when she reached middle age.
Aside from her appearance in Playboy, Stanton was also once involved with the King of Rock and Roll and fellow Memphian, Elvis Presley.
Sadly, Stanton died from a blockage of the colon, two days after her 42nd birthday in 1996.
As a teenager in 1978 and living in Memphis as I did, seeing a girl from my hometown appear in the pages of Playboy was very cool. Stanton was petite, pretty and had two of the most beautiful breasts you will ever gaze upon.
Obviously, the best of Gail Stanton can’t be seen in the gallery below, but you can download her centerfold layout from Playboy here.
