Several Conferences Eliminating Media Day
Published by MoonDog on June 20, 2009
An early rite of college football season is falling under the budget ax.
Media Day, when conferences bring together coaches and top players to talk with reporters, is an expense some leagues are eliminating to save money.
Kyle Schwartz is assistant commissioner at the Ohio Valley Conference. He says the league’s job is distributing revenue back to schools and any money saved can go back to them.
The OVC is not alone in scrapping its annual media days.
The Big Sky Conference has cut media days as has the Southern Conference.
The Sun Belt Conference, is replacing the traditional meet-and-greet with a video teleconference. Conference USA has also announced it will not have a Media Day this year.
