Taco Bell Is NBA’s New Sponsor
Published by MoonDog on July 3, 2009
The Sports Business Journal reported earlier this week that long-time NBA sponsor McDonald’s will be replaced by Taco Bell. McDonald’s was the leagues fast food partner for the last 20 years.
The NBA and Taco Bell agreed to a four-year, all-inclusive deal, with advertising spots to appear during telecasts on ABC, ESPN and TNT. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Taco Bell will also get title sponsorship to the NBA All-Star Saturday Night Skill Challenge and store promotions. According to the Sports Business Journal, the new deal expands beyond the league’s sponsorship package with McDonald’s and is believed to bring greater revenue.
Considering the difficulty many sports franchises have had selling naming rights and acquiring sponsorship deals in today’s economy – like the Dallas Cowboys and New York Mets – the NBA has pulled off a major coup.

I started eating TB in 1976. They put one right across the street from my high school. It was better then, when they used real ground beef and black olives. I’ll eat there once in a blue moon now. I think the NBA did the right thing going with TB though. McDonald’s used to be good too. Now, they suck. I haven’t eaten there in years and won’t eat there either.
