Man Charged $23 Quadrillion For Pack Of Cigarettes
Published by MoonDog on July 20, 2009
A man in New Hampshire bought a pack of cigarettes at a gas station only to be mistakenly charged $23 quadrillion and given a $15 overdraft fee.
Josh Muszynski says he noticed the $23,148,855,308,184,500 charge when he checked his account online after he made his purchase.
He said it was “a lot of money in the negative” and that it was “something I could never, ever, afford to pay back.”
Muszynski rushed back to the gas station but they couldn’t help him and says he then spent hours on the phone with his bank.
Eventually the bank fixed everything and waived the overdraft fee as well.
It’s still not clear how the error was made.
“I thought somebody had bought Europe with my credit card,” Muszynski says.
