Marijuana May Help The Elderly

Marijuana may help the elderly by strengthening their bones, despite research to suggest it does the opposite in younger users.

New research into the drug show that the effect cannabis has on bone density massively differentiate depending on the age of the smoker. And it could be that if taken in later life, it will protect against osteoporosis.

The results were uncovered by a team at the University of Edinburgh who compared marijuana effects on mice.

Osteoporosis affects up to 30 percent of women and about 12 percent of men at some point in their lives.

The team found that marijuana can activate a molecule found naturally in the body that is key to the development of osteoporosis.

When the type 1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1) comes into contact with marijuana, it has an impact on bone regeneration.

But, until now, it was not clear whether the drug had a positive or negative effect.

Banning Marijuana in the first place was a conspiracy of the government to stop money from flowing out of the country into the hands of forces they deemed were a threat to Democracy. After the US banned it, every one followed suit and soon marijuana was considered illegal although no research proved the consequences to be worse than smoking cigarettes. Today, cigarettes which are way more harmful than pot continue to be sold freely for profit while marijuana is banned.

Well said. I’m a proponent of legalizing marijuana and taxing it. The state of California collected over $11 million in tax revenue from the sale of legal marijuana in 2008 and that number will increase this year.

If we legalized marijuana nationally, think of the tax revenue it would generate. I’ll bet we wouldn’t have to talk about stimulus packages and health care reform with the money earned from sales of marijuana.
