Making the $400 hair cuts of adulterer, liar and all-around gas bag John Edwards seem like chump change, the Sultan of Brunei, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, has come under fire after he spent $24,000 on a haircut.
That’s the sum he spent to have his favorite barber, Ken Modestou, fly out from London to give the haircut.
Modestou was given a self-contained suite on a Singapore Airlines flight for the 7,000-mile trip to the sultanate.
The cabin was deemed necessary because the 63-year-old sultan wanted to ensure his barber was isolated from possible swine flu among other passengers.
George Kadi, who works with Modestou in London, told a client, “Ken has been cutting the hair of the sultan for 16 years.
Kadi said that after trimming the sultan’s hair, Modestou receives a “thick envelope” full of dollars.
For his extravagances, the Sultan earns the title of Super Dingleberry of the week at MoonDog Sports.
