Prison Food Better Than Government Run Hospitals In England

Opponents of proposed legislation that would overhaul the healthcare system in the United States have another reason to point towards based on research in England.

Researchers have claimed the food provided in British prisons is better than in government-run National Health Service hospitals across Britain.

Experts from Bournemouth University examined the quality of food offered to prisoners and NHS patients.

They say people in the hospital are losing out on nutrition because they are not being helped with eating or having their diet monitored.

A Department of Health spokesman said most patients were “satisfied with the food they receive in hospitals.”

Professor John Edwards said about 40 percent of patients entering the hospital were already malnourished, and this did not tend to improve during their stay. “The food that is provided is actually better than most civilians have.”
