Forbes magazine released its list of the Most Valuable NFL Franchises on Thursday with the Dallas Cowboys topping the list at $1.65 billion, a $500,000 increase since January 2009.
Earlier this year Forbes released its list of the World’s Most Valuable Sports Franchises. Manchester United, the European soccer power, came in number one among all sports franchises at $1.8 billion.
Of the 32 National Football League franchises, 19 have a value of $1 billion or more. The Cowboys’ worth can be directly attributed to the new stadium Dallas will begin playing in this season.
The Cowboys are worth $100 million more than the next highest NFL franchise, the Washington Redskins, with a worth of $1.55 billion.
Rounding out the top five NFL franchises are the New England Patriots with a worth of $1.36 billion, the New York Giants at $1.18 billion and the New York Jets at $1.17 billion.
Forbes national editor Michael Ozanian is reporting that team values are being depressed due to eight franchises currently being for sale.
