Charles Manson Digs Rangers Baseball, Nachos

I recall an extensive interview – an expose’ to be more precise – Charlie Rose did with Charles Manson in 1986 that for the first time, really exposed me to the extent of Manson’s mental illness.

I was in the U.S. Navy working late one night when I watched Manson describe how he wasn’t responsible for the Tate/LaBianca murders, carried out by members of his “family” in 1969.

Suffice it to say, I was glad there were places with walls and bars to prevent the likes of Manson from walking among the rest of us.

His explanation – if you can call it that – was so bizarre I actually found myself laughing, although there wasn’t anything funny about Manson or his followers. At the very end of the interview, Manson jumps up from his chair and proclaims “I’m free man, I’m free!”

Fast forward to 2009. Thanks to Gordon Keith, we’ve learned Charles Manson has been given a weekend furlough, which Mr. Helter Skelter decides would be best put to use by taking in a Texas Rangers game in Arlington.

Manson, dizzy from all the fresh air he’s breathing in for the first time in nearly 40 years, apparently has a hankering for some nachos, a tasty treat not found on the Corcoran State Prison menu.

For you youngsters out there who might not be familiar with who Charles Manson is, watch this last clip of the seven-part series of the Charlie Rose interview from 1986.
