The first week of the NFL season has come to an end and there were a fair number of Risers and Fallers.
NFL fans were not disappointed for the quality of games on the field. Eight of the games were decided by 6 points or less while one was pushed into overtime.
The winner in seven of the games played during week one was not decided until the fourth quarter.
On the flip side, eight teams lost by an average of 18 points.
If your team won this weekend, there’s a good chance they broke the century mark when it came to the running game.
Of the eleven teams who rushed for more than 100 yards, eight of them will be entering Week 2 with a 1–0 record.
Tony Romo Granted it was only one week but Tony Romo did a spectacular job of quitting critics who thought he would completely fold this season. Cowboys’ fans should get used to this as Romo will continue to shine through the remainder of the 2009 season.
Philadelphia Eagles If anyone thought the Eagles would not be serious contenders this year, the Eagles showed why they should be the favorite to win the NFC East. They absolutely dominated the Carolina Panthers in their 38–10 win.
Oakland Raiders No one was giving them a chance and had it not been for the San Diego Chargers coming back and scoring with 18 seconds left, they would have begun the season 1–0. There is a lot to like about this team, especially their defense.
Jay Cutler Chicago Bears fans have to be shaking their heads after watching Cutler throw four interceptions. Especially after they saw Kyle Orton win earlier in the day. If Cutler does not drastically improve next week, it is going to be a long season.
Detroit Lions / Cleveland Browns / St. Louis Rams Each of these teams had high hopes and saw them dashed by the end of the game. Though it is only the first week of the season, we can see glaring holes in each of their offensive and defensive units. The race is on for the top pick in the 2010 NFL draft.
Buffalo Bills They had the game in the bag until the ball was coughed up on the kickoff return. Talk about a team imploding and this time Terrell Owens was not the root cause of it. Tough loss to a divisional opponent.
Statistical Line of the Week Drew Brees (NO) – Completed 26 of 34 passes for 358 yards with 6 touchdowns and 1 interception
