2009 SEC Football Power Poll

With Florida’s victory over Tennessee and Alabama’s big win over North Texas, the Gators and Crimson Tide remained at the top of this week’s SEC Football Power Poll.

Florida, the top-ranked team in the nation, had a more difficult time with Tennessee than expected, knocking off the Volunteers 23-13.

Alabama had no trouble with hapless North Texas, blowing out the Mean Green 53-7. The win moved the Crimson Tide to 3-0 overall heading into their first SEC game this Saturday against Arkansas.

Speaking of the Razorbacks, they gave Georgia fits but couldn’t stop the Bulldogs from scoring, losing a wild one in Fayetteville 52-41. Georgia improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the SEC.

How much better does LSU’s win over the Washington Huskies look now? The Tigers season-opening win on the road against Washington is more impressive now that the Huskies knocked off Southern California.

Ole Miss ran up the score on Southeastern Louisiana, easily defeating the Lions in the Rebels home opener 52-6. Ole Miss will get their first real test of the season when they face South Carolina Thursday night in Columbia.

Auburn overcame a 21-10 first quarter deficit to gain a measure of revenge against West Virginia, defeating the Mountaineers 41-30 at soggy Jordan-Hare Stadium.
