Bad Economy? Nine MLB Clubs Draw Over 3 Million

Nine Major League Baseball clubs drew over three million fans to their home games during the 2009 season, with the Los Angeles Dodgers leading the way at 3.76 million.

Of the nine clubs drawing over three million, only two were considered to be small market teams. The St. Louis Cardinals finished fourth in total home game attendance with 3.34 million fans turning out to watch the National League Central Division champions.

The other small market club to draw over three million was the Milwaukee Brewers, who came in ninth among all 30 MLB franchises with 3.03 million fans visiting Miller Park this season.

Attendance figures were down from 2008 season totals with the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Detroit Tigers experiencing the biggest drop offs in home game attendance.

The Yankees drew nearly 4.3 million fans to their home games in 2008 but only 3.7 million visited the new Yankee Stadium in 2009.

The Mets saw a substantial decrease in attendance as well, drawing 900,000 fewer fans to the new Citi Field.
