Gators Are Tiger Bait, SEC Football Picks

When LSU and Florida square off tonight in Tiger Stadium, the Gators and Tigers will be the focus of the college football world. Remember 2007 when LSU came from behind to defeat Florida?

I’m going on the record now and predict LSU will turn the Gators into Tiger treats when the clock strikes zero. There’s something magical about LSU playing on Saturday night’s in Death Valley.

I wrote an article about the LSU-Florida game for EgoTV which you can check out here.

I want to see Florida quarterback Tim Tebow play because I don’t want to hear excuses from Gators’ coach Urban Meyer.

If Tebow plays and LSU gets the win, Florida won’t have any excuses. Some will attempt to make excuses, suggesting Tebow wasn’t completely healthy and didn’t perform as he normally does.

But that argument will be flawed. If Tebow wasn’t completely healthy, why did he play? Are the doctors overseeing his care incompetent? Would they allow him to play if he weren’t ready to do so?

If the Gators can somehow manage a victory over LSU tonight, the next obstacle in their path along the way to another BCS national championship will be their opponent in the SEC Championship on December 5.

If LSU comes away with a win tonight – and they will – the Tigers will obviously have earned a huge victory. But the Tigers remaining schedule is brutal with No. 17 Auburn, No. 3 Alabama and No. 20 Ole Miss yet to play.

Florida still has Georgia, No. 25 South Carolina and in-state rival Florida State among their remaining schedule, but the Gators will win all of those games.

There are a lot of scenarios that could develop between now and December 5, but Florida – even with a loss tonight against LSU – will represent the SEC East in the Georgia Dome.

The SEC West representative is a long way from being determined. An LSU win only gives the Tigers a boost in the national rankings. Beating Florida really won’t much impact in the SEC West, but it sure will go a long way towards a third BCS title for the Tigers.

My friends at SECRivals run a weekly SEC Football Picks Panel where several sites select the winners from a list of games, including some outside of the SEC.

Quite naturally, the Great & Powerful MoonDog is leading the way. This week’s panel is up and you can check out my picks along with the others here.
