Athletes, Political Figures Make Mustache Finals

Athletes and political figures are included among the 18 finalists for the American Mustache Institute’s “Robert Goulet Mustached American of the Year” award.

The lucky 18 were selected from a list of nearly 100 nominations of prominent figures from a host of professions.

The Institute says the award isn’t a best mustache contest but about “recognizing the person best contributing to the Mustached American way of life over the past year.”

Among the athletes making the final 18 are Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Landry Jones, Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Clay Zavada and St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Brendan Ryan.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and David Axelrod, an advisor to Barack Obama, also made the final cut, as did pilot Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger.

The “Goulet” will be chosen based on popular vote and you may cast your vote here. Voting will continue until Tuesday, October 20, and the winner will be announced on October 30 at ‘Stache Bash 2009.
