Champ – New Orleans Saints

Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has to be wondering how New Orleans head coach Sean Payton got away from America’s team.

The one-time assistant to former Dallas coach Bill Parcells has the Saints at 5-0 after they dismantled the New York Giants 48-27 on Sunday.

Parcells actually took play-calling responsibility away from Payton at one time while the two were together in Dallas. And Parcells is supposed to be a football genius?

All the Saints have done so far is beat the living hell out of everyone that has dared to get in their way. New Orleans is averaging nearly 40 points a game and quarterback Drew Brees is the early front-runner for the league’s MVP award.

Ironically enough, New Orleans’ next game is a road date in Miami against the Dolphins. Parcells is currently serving as Executive Vice President of Football Operations for Miami and I’m wondering if he’ll ask Payton why he didn’t produce these results while they were in Dallas.

If Payton wants to be really cocky – and I’m hopeful he is – he should tell Parcells that he never got the chance to prove he’s a football guru because the Tuna wasn’t smart enough to turn him loose.

Chump – The New York Jets

The New York Jets, especially head coach Rex Ryan and defense, have continued the sore loser role this past week longer than what was needed.

They have constantly referred to the Miami Dolphins Wildcat formation as a gimmick play and that it should not be in the NFL. The Jets gave the Dolphins little credit for the 31-27 victory on Monday Night Football.

This gimmick formation earned the Dolphins 110 yards on 16 plays, along with scoring the winning touchdown. The Jets were unable to stop the play even when they knew it was coming to them.

Apparently the only brand of football the Jets want has to be a two tight end set with a run play up the middle.

As for gimmick plays, the Jets attempted to fake punts during the Monday night game. Last time I checked, the fake punt is a gimmick play.

Jets’ players need to man up and accept the loss and hope they can figure this out before they face the Dolphins next time.
