2009 SEC Football Power Poll – Week 8
Published by MoonDog on November 2, 2009
The Florida Gators remained atop the MoonDog Sports 2009 SEC Football Power Poll with their 41-17 beat down of the Georgia Bulldogs. Coupled with Tennessee’s win over South Carolina, the Gators (8-0, 6-0) won the SEC East and will play for the SEC Championship, likely against Alabama.
Tim Tebow became the SEC’s all-time leader in touchdowns scored, passing former Georgia running back Herschel Walker. Tebow scored his 50th rushing TD in the second quarter and added his 51st in the third quarter. Tebow also set the SEC career record for rushing yards by a quarterback.
Alabama (8-0, 5-0) is second in our SEC Football Power Poll. The Crimson Tide had a bye this week to prepare for their SEC West show down with LSU in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
If Alabama defeats the Tigers they’ll win the West and earn a berth in the SEC Championship game against Florida on December 5.
LSU (7-1, 4-1) had no trouble against non-conference foe Tulane, easily beating the Green Wave 42-0. Charles Scott ran for 112 yards on 18 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead LSU.
Auburn (6-3, 3-3) jumped to fourth in our poll this week with their 33-20 win over Ole Miss. The Tigers Ben Tate ran for 144 yards on 25 carries and scored one touchdown to lead Auburn.
The Tennessee Volunteers (4-4, 2-3) moved up to the fifth spot in this week’s poll with their convincing 31-13 win over South Carolina. The Vols recovered nicely after their loss to Alabama the previous week, forcing four Gamecock turnovers.
