As most know, the Bowl Championship Series is guaranteed to be the system used to crown a champion in college football through the 2013-14 season.

Despite its many criticisms and a growing number of voices calling for the abolishment of the BCS, college presidents elected to continue the arrangement in 2007.

ESPN and the BCS agreed to a four-year, $500 million deal in November 2008 which gives the “Worldwide Leader” exclusive television, radio, digital, international and marketing rights for the Fiesta, Orange and Sugar Bowls from 2011-2014 and the BCS national championship game from 2011 to 2013.

The Rose Bowl will continue to be televised on ABC through 2014 under a separate, previous contract. The Rose Bowl is also slated to host the 2014 title game.
