Remember the TV series “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”? Apparently 44% of the members serving in the U.S. Congress have already achieved that goal.
According to a report on Politico.com, 237 of the 535 members in the U.S. House and Senate have net worth’s of at least $1 million.
With news this week of the nation’s unemployment rate reaching 10.2% – the highest since 1983 – a new study by the Center for Responsive Politics couldn’t have come at a worse time.
The study found that U.S. Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) is the wealthiest among members of Congress, with a net worth estimated at $251 million.
Following Issa is fellow California Representative Jane Harman with an estimated net worth of $244.7 million.
No wonder the state of California is broke, the politicians stole all of the money.
Rounding out the top five: Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI), worth $214.5 million; Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), worth $209.7 million; and Senator John Kerry (D-MA), worth $208.8 million.
The Center for Responsive Politics study states at least seven members of Congress have net worth’s greater than $100 million.
